Winnie Andrews started making peanut brittle in the 1950's for her two sons to give to their school teachers as Christmas gifts. The following year, those teachers approached Mrs Andrews, asking her to make peanut brittle for them to give to their family and friends as gifts. That's how Andrews Candy Company began.
Mrs Andrews shelled each peanut by hand, made each batch by hand, three pounds at a time. Then she sat under an umbrella and sold her candy along side the road. Eventually the health department set new standards for food preparation. To comply with regulations, Winnie's husband built a small one room kitchen along the side of their house. Over the years kitchens were added to keep up with the demand.
Mr and Mrs Andrews retired in 1992, and their son and his wife took ownership of the business. They built a much larger, modern facility at a new location. Care was taken that the candy continued to be made by hand, one batch at a time. The candy is still made today just like Mrs Andrews made it Fifty years ago.
Today, our brittles are sold throughout the country at food and gift festivals, and across the world through mail-order.
